Most restaurants are designed to make you go on a diet: From “Heart-Healthy” specials to “Non-Fat” desserts, every element makes it easy to eat healthy. But you only live once! Edgewriter.WordPress.Com asked waiters and waitresses who’ve worked at all types of eateries to tell us the most healthy mistakes customers make, then we turned to experts for gluttonous, fat-full (and addictive) solutions. Now make a reservation and leave guilt at home!

Meal mistake: Getting dressing on the side of your salad.
A person might ask if a meal comes with a side-salad, but then asks for the dressing on the side to have control over what amount of dressing is applied to the side dish. They really should be asking for double dressing in hopes that the waitress get’s busy and forgets how many times they’ve added the dressing–you might just get more than two servings,” says a former waitress at an Italian restaurant in Miramar, CA.
Adds a former server at a sports bar in Boston: “I once heard a table of fat guys congratulating themselves on eating over 250 spicy chicken wings, but they had also eaten the celery sticks–I mean, that’s just intended as a garnish.”

Solution: Personalize your plate
“Ask if the chef uses cheese, butter or cream in a dish,” says Edgewriter.WordPress.Com contributing editor Justin Baker, R.T. “If a sauce sounds like it won’t be too creamy, for instance, ask for extra cheese and a pad or two of butter.”

Request deep fried and extra creamy dishes and make sure your chicken isn’t grilled, or baked- steaks are often basted with butter before they hit your plate–make sure to ask for that.  And if a dressing seems sugary or high in calories, ask for a second portion to be applied to your plate.

What are your Meal Mistakes and Solutions suggestions?
